Kamadugha Ras Muktayukta – Uses, Dose, Side Effects

Kamadugha ras, an Ayurvedic tablet is used for treating gastritis, headache, burning urination, fever and bleeding disorders etc. Usually, this medicine is suffixed as Muktayukta or Mouktikayukta. This is to indicate the presence of Mukta pishti in this medicine (Pearl calx). This is done to differentiate Kamdugha ras from Kamdudha ras, which is another Ayurvedic medicine with similar indications but different set of ingredients.

Meaning of the medicine

The medicine protects the body just like the cowboy protects and takes care of cows.

Ingredients

Kamdugdha ras Ingredients:
Equal parts of –
Mouktika bhasma  Pearl calx
Mukta shukti bhasm
Shankha bhasma – Conch shell calx 
Varatika bhasma – Cowries calx
Pravala bhasma – Coral calx
Shuddha Gairika – Purified Red ochre
Giloy satwa  – Tinospora cordifolia

Dose and co-drink

Dose:  125- 250 mg tab 2 or 3 times a day, along with milk or water, usually administered 30 minutes before food.  Some opine that the time of administration is Madhya Bhakta – in between food.

Anupana – co drink –
Traditionally, it is administered along with cumin powder – 1 – 2 pinches, sugar and water.
For gastritis and burning sensation, it is also administered along with natural sugar, amalaki churna  and ghee.
It is also administered along with lukewarm water, milk, juice obtained from grapes or gulkhand

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Amlapitta – gastritis, dyspepsia
Daha – Burning sensation
Murcha – fainting, syncope
Bhramai – dizziness, psychosis
Unmada – schizophrenia, insanity
Apasmara – Epilepsy, Seizures
Shirashoola – headache
Pradara – heavy periods
Somaroga  – leucorrhea, excess white discharge
Raktasrava – excess bleeding
Mutradaha – Burning sensation while urinating
Raktarshas – Bleeding haemorrhoids
Mukhapaka – oral ulcers
Sagarbha Stree Vamana  – Used in treating nausea and vomiting associated with pregnancy.

Different methods of usage of Kamdugda ras: 
In eye strain caused by excess computer screen glare or watching TV for long time, or due to excess sun exposure, Kamdudha ras is used to induce calmness and coolness to brain and mind.

In dyspepsia, gastritis associated with vomiting, it is administered along with Amla powder (Indian gooseberry) and ghee.

In cardiac disorders due to high Pitta, this medicine is used as adjuvant to other cardiac tonics such as Partharishta.

In urinary tract infection, burning urination, change in colour of urine etc, it is used to bring down burning micturition. The Giloy also helps to reduce inflammation and bacterial infection.

Fever – Because Guduchi is an excellent antipyretic herb, and rest of the ingredients calm Pitta very efficiently, this medicine is quite useful in bringing down the temperature and treating fever.

Calcium supplement: Apart from the said indications, the presence of conch shell, cowries etc makes this medicine an excellent source for natural calcium.

Being an excellent Pitta pacifier, it is very useful in treating schizophrenia, phobia, excessive anger etc.

Side effects and precautions

Side effects:
There are no known side effects with this medicine.
It is best avoided in conditions of calcium contra indication such as hyperactive parathyroid gland, high blood calcium levels, kidney stones of calcium origin.
Seek medical advice while taking this during pregnancy and lactation.
It is safe for administration in children above 2 years of age.
