Maha Vat Gajankush Ras – Benefits, Dosage, Ingredients, Side Effects

Maha Vat Gajankush Ras is an Ayurvedic medicine in tablet form. It is used in the treatment of Vata and kapha imbalance disorders such as Rheumatoid arthritis, Facial palsy, Paralysis, Headache, etc. This medicine should only be taken under strict medical supervision.

Uses

It is used in the treatment of Vata and Kapha related diseases such as Rheumatoid arthritis, Migraine, Paralysis, Cough, Cold, Asthma, Bronchitis etc.
Post viral fever, when the patient complains of body, muscle and joint pains
Bursitis,  
Bursitis trochanterica,
Shoulder dislocation pain

The term Gaja (elephant) in the name of the medicine symbolizes – kapha /aama. Qualities of elephant – slow restricted movement, heavy, powerful, etc

Indications

Sciatica, – Gridhrasi
Ama-Kaphayukta vatadosha,
Thigh stiffness – Urusthambha
Frozen shoulder – Avabahuka
Kroshtuka shirsha,
Neck stiffness – Manyasthambha
Locked jaw – Hanusthambha
Paralysis – Pakshaghata
Effect on Tridosha – Balances Vata and Kapha.
Amapachaka, Pittavardhaka, Agnideepaka (improves digestion strength)

Dosage

250 mg once or twice a day, before or after food or as directed by Ayurvedic doctor. It is traditionally administered along with honey, Milk, hot water.

How long to use: It can be used upto 1 – 2 months based on doctor’s prescription.
Commonly co-prescribed medicines:
Ajamodadi churna  – useful in rheumatoid arthritis, osteo arthritis
Simhanada guggulu – used in gout, skin disease, etc.
Mahanarayana taila, Kottamchukkadi taila, – for external application
Kanakasava – for cough, cold, asthma

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Side Effects

There are no recorded side effects with this medicine.
It should be taken under strict medical supervision. Take this medicine only if your Ayurveda doctor has prescribed it to you.
Store in a cool dry place, in an air tight container, away from direct sunlight.
Use this medicine only till the prescribed time and in the prescribed dose only.
Seek your doctor’s advice for its usage during pregnancy, lactation and in children.
Keep out of reach and sight of children.

10 g fine powder of each of
Abhraka Bhasma – Bhasma (calx) of Mica
Loha Bhasma – Bhasma (Calx) of Iron
Tamra Bhasma – Bhasma (calx) of Copper
Suta Bhasma – Rasasindhura – A compound of purified and processed Mercury and Purified Sulphur
Shuddha Haratala – Purified Orpiment (Arsenis tri sulphide)
Shuddha Gandhaka – Purified and processed Sulphur Bharngi – Clerodendron serratum (root)
Shunti – Ginger (rhizome) – Zingiber officinalis
Bala – Country mallow (root) – Sida cordifolia
Dhanyaka – Coriander – Coriandrum sativum
katphala – Myrica nagi
Abhaya – Chebulic Myrobalan (fruit rind) – Terminalia chebula
Shuddha Vatsanabha – Purified Aconitum ferox
Pippali – Long pepper – Piper longum (water decoction) – quantity sufficient.
The fine powder of above ingredients is ground with the decoction, made into paste and pills are prepared.
