Sataavari Legiyam: Uses, Dose, Ingredients, Side effects

Sataavari Legiyam is a classical Siddha medicine in paste/jam form manufactured by SKM Siddha & Ayurveda Company India Ltd., Erode – Tamil Nadu. It is a good uterine tonic, used in the treatment of genito-urinary disorders.

Ingredients

Ingredients of Sataavari Legiyam:
Chukku – Shunti – Ginger – Zingiber officinale – 0.16 %
Elam – Ela – Cardamom – Elettaria cardamomum – 0.16 % – Relieves dysuria (painful micturition), urinary retention, acts as diuretic.
Nilapanang kizhangu – Thaalamooli – Curculigo orchioides – 0.16 %
Paada kizhangu – Patha – Cissampelos pareira – 0.16 %
Nerunjil – Gokshura – Tribulus terrestris – 0.16 % – It has diuretic activity and also lithotryptic activity – the ability to break down urinary stones.
Nannari – Sariva – Indian sarsaparilla – Hemidesmus indicus – 0.16 %
Paal maduakkan kizhangu – Vidari – Ipomea digitata – 0.16 %
Thippili – Pippali – Long pepper – Piper longum – 0.16 %
Adhimadhuram – Yastimadhu – Licorice – Glycyrrhiza glabra – 0.16 %
Gomoothira silajat – Shilajitu – Rocky exudate – 0.16 % – From body building, to treating disorders such as diabetes, urinary tract diseases, asthma etc, shilajat is very commonly used.
Moongiluppu – Vamsha – Bambusa arundinacea – 2.58 % – It is a plant mentioned in Ayurveda for the treatment of cough, skin diseases, wounds, digestive disorders, nausea, dysuria, gynecological disorders and fever. 
Sarkarai – Sita – Saccharum officinarum – 2.58 %
Pasunei – Ghrita – Ghee – Bos indicus – 10.50 %
Panai vellam – Taala – Borassus flabellifer – 41.35 %
Sataavari saaru – Satavari – Asparagus racemosus – 41.35 % – Useful in bleeding disorders such as nasal bleeding, Menorrhagia, rectal bleeding etc.

Indication of Sataavari Legiyam:

  • Moothira erichchalum valiyum [dysuria/painful micturition accompanied by burning sensation]
  • Moothira thadai padal [dropping of urine]
  • Prameham
  • Kurudhiazhal/raththapiththam [internal hemorrhages]
  • Kai kaal erichchal [burning sensation in palm & soles]
  • Kaamaalai [jaundice]
  • Udal choodu [excessive body heat]
  • Vellai [leucorrhoea]
  • Veettu vilakku kolarugal [menstrual disorders]
  • Karuppai kolarugal [uterine disorders]
  • Mathavilaku kolarugal [menstrual disorders].

Dose

Dosage & Adjuvants of Sataavari Legiyam:
5 – 10 g with milk after food twice daily.
Or as directed by the physician.

Side effects and package

Side effects of Sataavari Legiyam:

  • There are no recorded side effects with this medicine.
  • Should be taken under medical supervision.
  • Seek your doctor’s advice if you are diabetic. In diabetic patients, only if the blood sugar is under good control, then this medicine can be given.
