Arakku Thailam: Uses, Dose, Ingredients, Side effects

Arakku Thailam is a classical Siddha medicine in oil form manufactured by SKM Siddha & Ayurveda Company India Ltd., Erode- Tamil Nadu. It is beneficial in vatha & pitha disorders.

Ingredients

Ingredients of Arakku Thailam:
Kombarakku – Laksha – Cateria lacca – 66.67 % – Useful in the treatment of recurrent fever, fever due to psychiatric disorder, cough, bleeding disorders etc.
Thanneer – Jala – Water – q.s.
Pasumpal – Payas – Bos indicus/ cow’s milk – q.s.
Nalla ennai – Tila taila – Sesame oil – Sesamum indicum – q.s.
Kadi – Shali – Oryza sativa – q.s.
Their thelivu – Thakra – Bos indicus/ buttermilk – q.s.
Santhanam – Chandana – Sandal wood – Santalum album – 2.08 % – It is useful to control anger (by balancing Pitta). Hence useful in psychiatric disorders such as Mania, Schizophrenia etc.
Kasturi manjal – Aranyaharidra – Curcuma aromatica – 2.08 % – It is useful in the treatment of insect bite, headache, fever, cough, allergy etc.  
Karpuram thanki – Kusta – Saussurea lappa – 2.08 % – It is a famous Ayurvedic herb used in treating gout, skin diseases, respiratory disorders etc.
Elavangapattai – Twak – Cinnamon – Cinnamomum zeylanicum – 2.08 %
Elavangapathiri – Twakpatra – Cinnamomum zeylanicum – 2.08 %
Pachilai – Thulasi – Holy basil – Ocimum basilicum – 2.08 % – It is used to treat cough, poisoning, headache, diarrhea, intestinal worms etc.
Athimadhuram – Yastimadhu – Licorice – Glycyrrhiza glabra – 2.08 %
Sadamanjil – Jatamamsi – Spikenard – Nardostachys jatamansi – 2.08 % – It has Pitta balancing quality and improves brain functions.
Kichili kizhangu – Shati – Curcuma zedoaria – 2.08 % – Used for the treatment of swelling, diseases of the oral cavity, alopecia, sinusitis, diseases of the respiratory tract and indigestion.
Kadugu rohini – Katukarohini – Helleborus niger – 2.08 %
Elam – Ela – Cardamom – Elettaria cardamomum – 2.08 % – Being an excellent anti oxidant, it is used in treating blood pressure, asthma, indigestion, dysuria etc.
Poonchanthipattai – Karpuravalli – Anisochilus carnosus – 2.08 %
Seeragam – Jeeraka – Cumin – Cuminum cyminum – 2.08 %
Karunseeragam – Krishna jeeraka – Black caraway – Nigella sativa – 2.08 %
Merugan kizhangu – Arka pushpi – Alocacia indica – 2.08 %
Sevvalli – Manjista – Indian madder – Rubia cordifolia – 2.08 % – Because it mitigates Pitta, it is useful in diseases of the tissues where Pitta is involved.

  • Veppu [a type of pitha disorder]
  • Udal kaduppu [body pain]
  • Ellunairu [morning headache]
  • Padunairu [evening headache]
  • Thalai choolai [a type of head disease]
  • Kattralai nattram [bad odour of the body]
  • Eru veekkam [gingivitis]
  • Thondai kammal [pharyngitis]
  • Suvasakasam [bronchial asthma]
  • Rathathin murivu [a type of anemia]
  • Pandu [anemia]
  • Kulirsuram [fever with rigor]
  • Natpatta suram [chronic fever].

Direction for use

Direction for use of Arakku Thailam:
Used as a bathing oil.

Application on feet

Oil application over feet

Precaution if you apply this oil over feet:
If you apply this oil on feet, make sure to wash off thouroughly with water or wipe off with cloth. The oil can make you slippery while walking.
After applying, make sure there are no oil spills on the floor. This can make the floor slippery.

Side effects and package

Side effects of Arakku Thailam:

  • For external application only.
  • There are no recorded side effects with this medicine.

Presentation:

Bottle of 100 ml & 500 ml.

During pregnancy, lactation

If you were using this oil before pregnancy without any allergic reaction, you can continue using this oil even during pregnancy.
If you have not used this product before and wish to use it during pregnancy, better to consult a doctor because it can cause skin allergy in some rare cases.
It is generally considered as safe to use during lactation, however consult your doctor for the right advice.

Can this product be applied after steam therapy?
No. Oil is best applied before steam therapy. This is as per basic Ayurvedic principles.
