Karunai Legiyam Uses, Dose, Ingredients, Side effects

Karunai Legiyam is a classical Siddha medicine in paste/jam form manufactured by SKM Siddha & Ayurveda Company India Ltd., Erode- Tamil Nadu. It is used in the treatment of hemorrhoids.

Ingredients

Ingredients of Karunai Legiyam:
Kaattu karunai – Vajrakanda – Amorphophallus sylvaticus – 7.69 %
Kaaraa karunai – Sooranakanda – Elephant Yam – Amorphophallus campanulatus – 7.69 % – It is an Ayurvedic herb, mentioned for the treatment of piles, amenorrhea, indigestion, anorexia, joint pain and elephantiasis. 
Pulinaralai – Asthisamhara – Cissus setosa – 7.69 %
Pirandai – Asthishrinkala – Cissus quadrangularis – 7.69 % – It enhances the quantity of bowel, appetizer, good for patients of hemorrhoids, gulma (gaseous tumors) and indigestion.
Marulmoolam – Murva – Sansevieria roxburghiana – 7.69 % – Useful in hemorrhoids, worm infestation, jaundice, fever etc.
Kumariver – Kumari – Aloe barbadensis – 7.69 % – Because of its mild laxative action and wound healing properties, is very beneficial in hemorrhoids treatment.
Pidi karunai – Typhonium crenatum – 7.69 %
Maam paruppu – Amra – Mango – Mangifera indica – 7.69 %
Chukku – Shunti – Ginger – Zingiber officinale – 7.69 % – Useful in indigestion, anorexia, constipation etc.
Kadukkai thole – Haritaki – Chebulic myrobalan – Terminalia chebula – 7.69 % – It helps to ease bowel movement, one of the complications in hemorrhoids.
Kodiveli ver – Chitraka – Plumbago indica – 7.69 % – It is one of the powerful digestive and carminative herbs of Ayurveda.
Korai kizhangu – Musta – Cyperus rotundus – 7.69 % – Of all the herbs useful as absorbent, digestive and carminative, Musta is the best.
Sarakonnai puli – Aragwadha – Cassia fistula – 7.69 % – Of all the herbs that are useful in bringing about mild purgation, Aragvadha is the best.
Panai vellam – Taala – Borassus flabellifer – q.s.
Pasu nei – Ghrita – Ghee – Bos indicus – q.s.
Thein – Madhu – Honey – Apis mellifera – q.s.

Indication

Indication of Karunai Legiyam:

  • Sagala vidhamana moolangal [all kinds of piles]
  • Moola vali.

Dose

Dosage & Adjuvants of Karunai Legiyam:

5 – 10 g with water/milk after food twice daily preferably with Naaga Parpam or Naththai Parpam.
Or as directed by the physician.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Side effects of Karunai Legiyam:

  • There are no recorded side effects with this medicine.
  • Should be taken under medical supervision.
  • Seek your doctor’s advice if you are diabetic. In diabetic patients, only if the blood sugar is under good control, then this medicine can be given.
