Agasthiyar Kulambu Uses, Dose, Ingredients, Side effects

Agasthiyar Kulambu is a classical Siddha medicine manufactured by SKM Siddha & Ayurveda Company India Ltd., Erode- Tamil Nadu. It is used in the treatment of tridoshaja disorders.

Ingredients

Ingredients of Agasthiyar Kulambu:
Purified perunkayam – Hingu – Ferula asafoetida – 5 %
Purified kadugurohini – Tiktarohini – Helleborous niger – 5 %
Purified indhuppu – Saindhava lavana – Rock salt – 5 % – It improves digestion strength and taste.
Purified rasam – Shuddha parada – Hydragyrum – 5 %
Purified venkaram – Shuddha Tankana – Sodium borate – 5 % – It is used in the treatment of productive cough, bronchitis, wheezing, asthma, chest congestion, food poisoning, abdominal colic pain.
Purified manoseelai – Shuddha manashila – Arsenic disulphide – 5 %
Purifie napi – Shuddha Vatsanabha – Aconitum ferox – 5 % – Useful in the treatment of fever, piles, anemia, skin diseases etc.
Purified omam – Yavani – Carom seed – Trachyspermum ammi – 5 % – It is used extensively in digestive diseases.
Purified aritharam – Shuddha Haratala – Arsenic trisulphide – 5 % – It is useful in skin diseases with itching, cough, cold, bronchitis, asthma, syphilis, sinus, boils etc.
Karunseeragam – Krishna jeeraka – Black caraway – Nigella sativa – 5 % – It is widely used in after delivery care of the mother. It is good for eyes, bloating, vomiting etc.
Purified valam – Jayapala – Croton tiglium – 50 % – It is used for the treatment of alopecia, erectile dysfunction, ascites, severe constipation and to induce purgation.

Indications & Adjuvants

Indications & Adjuvants of Agasthiyar Kulambu:
1. Chukku thool [dry ginger powder] is useful in fever.
2. Kadukkai thool [Terminalia chebula] can be taken in Erumal [cough].
3. Chukku+milagu podi [powder of pepper & ginger] – in Kulir suram [fever with rigor].
4. Pasu nei, erumai paal [ghee, buffalo milk] – Ratha moolam [bleeding piles].
5. Milagu thool or venkaya saru [pepper powder or onion juice] – Pandu [anemia], sokai [dropsy], veppupavai [type of pitta disorder], neeramai [epileptic disorder due to abnormality of vata, pitta & kapha].
6. Thein, inji saru [honey, ginger juice] – Janni [epileptic disorder due to abnormality of vata, pitta & kapha].
7. Veppa ennai [neem oil] – Suga janni [type of epileptic disorder].
8. Mixing with the juice of puttrilai karisalai [Wedelia calendulacea] – Paru [acne vulgaris], pilavai [carbuncle], thodaivalai [inguinal lymphadenopathy], araiyappu [bubo], silanthi [abscess], punkal [external ulcers], mulaikuthu [inflammation of the breast].
9. Nochi saru [vitex negundo] – Susika vali [type of psychiatric disorder], gunmangal [peptic ulcer].
10. Kancha saru [Cannabis sativa] – Kasam [chronic bronchitis due to various causes], peenasam [sinusitis].
11. Milagu [pepper] – Vatha thalai [neuralgic pain due to vata disorder].
12. Thiripugai – Kapalavali [painful conditions of the head].
13. Thalai viluthu [Pandanus odoratissimus] – Neerperukku [excessive urination], neer siruppu [scanty urination], kalladaippu [renal stone].
14. Sangankuppi saru [Azima tetracantha] – Theera kiranthi [chronic syphilis], karappan [eczema].
15. Vellulli kiyazham & kalarchi kudineer – 13 vagai janni [epileptic disorder].
16. Navalpattai, karuthattin pal+ seeragam – Soothaga vayu [disorders of the uterus leading to female infertility], soothaga vali [menstrual disorders].
17. Nochi saru, saranai ver, milagu – Soothaga vayu, soothaga thiratchi.
18. Murugaipattai, pungu, erukkan ver, thirukalliver, inji ver – Piravi kolaru [congenital abnormalities].
19. Elavangapathiri, kirambu, adhimadhuram, thalisapathiri, avin vennai – Nenju vali [chest pain].
20. Avuri, avin vennai [Indigofera tinctoria] – Veeriyan visham [toxicity of veriyan snake], veekkam [swelling].
21. Agathi elai, thulasi elai – Thelkadi [scorpion bites].
22. Vellam, milagu, peipirakku – Valalai visham [toxicity due to valalai snake].
23. Palaiya puli, vellam, sithiramoolam, kuppaimeni elai – Nenju vali [chest pain due to digestive disorder].
24. Milagu, venkaram, pasunei – Neerkattu [anurea].
25. Nochi saru [vitex negundo] – Vishapagam [poisonous symptoms].

27. Chukku kudineer [decoction of dry ginger] – Peipidithal [psychiatric disorder], vathasuram [fever due to vatha disorder].

29. Thippili podi, kirambu, malaithanki, nabi kudineer – Sethuma suram [fever due to kapha disorder].
30. Chukku kudineer [mixing with chukku decoction & instillation as eye drops], inji sarasam, vellulli thailam – 13 types of janni [epileptic disorders]. 31. Elaneer, vellaripinju, thippili kudineer – Neeradaippu [oliguria].
32. Kaadi [1 day old rice water] – Vanthi [vomiting].

35. Vellattu pal [goat’s milk] – Karpa vippuruthi [tumor of the uterus with amenorrhoea].
36. Pasumpal [milk] – Udalparuman nanmai yundaka [obesity].
37. Agathi saru [Sesbania grandiflora] – Mahotharam [ascites].
38. Amanakku ennai [castor oil] – Vayu thiratchi [swelling due to vatha disorder].
39. Inji saru [ginger juice] – Anda vatham [hydrocele], anda suram [fever due to inflammation of the scrotum], vatha viruthi suram [fever due to vatha disorder].
40. Thenkkai paal [milk of coconut] – Moolavatham [vatha disorder of intestine].
41. Karuppatti [palm jaggery] – Anandha vayu [type of vatha disorder], thaniya suram [continuous high fever], soolai [neuralgic disorder].
42. Inji sau [ginger juice] – Vayu suram [fever due to vatha disorder].
43. Inji [ginger] – Vatham [vatha disorder].
44. Pasumpal [milk] – Pitham [pitta disorder].

57. Pasuvin thayir [curd] – Penkal yuruguseelai [neuralgic pain of the vagina].
58. Vilamichanver – Vettai [gonorrhoea].
59. Semaiyattu pal – Shthanam undaka [breast development].
60. Vettrilai [betle leaf] – Visham theerum [toxicity due to poisons].
61. Karuppatti [palm jaggery] – Soolai 18 [18 types of neuralgia].
62. Thaipal nasiyam – Ottrai thalaivali [migraine].
63. External application with breast milk at the frontal area – Kannoi [eye disorder], kapalavayu [vatha disorder of the head].
64. Grinding with the breast milk & instilling as eye drops – in Uramana edathil erunthu keele vilunthu moorchaiyakuthal [unconscious due to sudden fall], thanneeril moolki mmayakkam [fainting due to drowning], asathiya suram [incurable fever], mugavatha janni [facial palsy].

Dose

Dosage of Agasthiyar Kulambu:

  • 65 mg with different adjuvants as required as mentioned above for various diseases, or as directed by the physician.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Diet

Pathya:- Pasu nei [ghee], murunkaipinju, vezhaipinju [tender immature fruit of banana], narathankai [Citrus reticulata], thoothuvalai [Solanum trilobatum]may be included in diet.

Side effects

Side effects of Agsthiyar Kulambu:

  • As this medicine is a powerful purgative, it is better to administer in appropriate lower dosage.
  • If it causes intense purgation a decoction of seeragam [Cuminum cyminum], puli [Tamarindus indica] or elumichan saru [lime juice] shall be administered.

Rice with butter milk or vasambu cutta kari [ash collected from burned Acorus calamus] may also be given.

  • When grinding the medicine take rice with buttermilk & grind and the person who is grinding the medicine has to apply coconut oil throughout his body.
