Kasthoori Karuppu Uses, Dose, Ingredients, Side effects

Kasthuri Karuppu is a classical Siddha medicine in karuppu form, manufactured by SKM Siddha & Ayurveda Company India Ltd., Erode- Tamil Nadu. It is used in the treatment of respiratory diseases.

Ingredients

Ingredients of Kasthoori Karuppu:
Kasthoori – Kasthoori – Moschus moschiferous – 1.4 %
Pachchai karpooram – Karpoora – Camphor – Cinnamomum camphora – 7.7 %
Gorochanam – Gorochana – Bos indicus – 7.7 % – It is widely used in psychiatric disorders, seizures, fever, improves skin complexion, as antidote to poison etc.
Kumkumapoo – Kumkuma – Crocus sativus – 7.7 % – It acts as immunity enhancer and memory booster. 
Suddhi seidha rasam – Shuddha parada – Elemental mercury – 7.7 %
Suddhi seidha gandhakam – Shuddha gandhaka – Elemental Sulphur – 7.7 % Suddhi seidha lingam – Shuddha Hingula – Mercuric sulphide [natural] – 7.7 %
Suddhi seidha pooram – Mercurous chloride – 7.7 %
Suddhi seidha rasachendooram – Shuddha rasa sindoora – Mercuric sulphide [artificial] – 7.7 % – It is used in Ayurvedic treatment to improve immunity, strength etc.
Suddhi seidha pathira thaalakam – Shuddha Haratala – Arsenic trisulphide – 7.7 %
Suddhi seidha manosilai – Shuddha manashila – Arsenic disulphide – 7.7 % Thippili – Pippali – Long pepper – Piper longum – 10.8 % – It has all qualities of a typical spice like useful in indigestion, asthma, cough etc. 
Omam – Yavani – Carom seed – Trachyspermum ammi – 10.8 %

Indication

Indication of Kasthoori Karuppu:

  • Kaichchal/suram [fever]
  • Irumal [bronchitis]
  • Iraippu [spasm]
  • Thondaikattu [sore throat]
  • Jaladosham [cold]
  • Other respiratory infections.
  • Neuralgic & nervous disorders such as- arthritis & rheumatism etc.
  • It stimulates the moochchu mandalam [respiratory system] & raththamandalam [circulatory system] & raises body temperature when the body temperature drops to chillness.
  • Post viral fever, when the patient complains of body, muscle and joint pains
    Bursitis,  
  • Bursitis trochanterica,
  • Shoulder dislocation pain

It is useful to promote strength of bones and joints.
It acts as an excellent anti inflammatory and analgesic medicine.
It is used for the treatment of ankle pain, ankle twitch, slipped disc, sprain, back spasm, backache, back injury, stiffness of muscles, Coccyx pain

Partially useful in (other medications might be required)
Avascular necrosis
Sensory-neural hearing loss
Hypothyroidism
Ankylosing spondylitis
Pain related to SLE

Diet

Avoid deep fried foods, heavy-to-digest non veg foods, fast foods and aerated drinks, smoking and excess alcohol. These can irritate stomach and intestinal lining. These also may increase Tridosha.

Dose

Dosage & Adjuvants of Kasthoori Karuppu:
50 – 100 mg twice daily with honey, ginger juice or breast milk after food.
Or as directed by the physician.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Diet

Pathya:-
Avoid salt, tamarind, sour diet, alcohol, pagal [bitter gourd], agathi [sasban], non-veg foods & tobacco.
