Nilaavarai Chooranam Uses, Dose, Ingredients, Side effects

Nilaavarai Chooranam is a classical Siddha medicine in powder form manufactured by SKM Siddha & Ayurveda Company India Ltd., Erode- Tamil Nadu. It is used in the treatment of constipation.

Ingredients

Ingredients of Nilaavarai Chooranam:
Nilavarai samoolam – Swarna patri – Indian senna – Cassia angustifolia – 76.92 % – It is mainly used as a blood purifier, laxative – for relieving constipation and to treat skin diseases.
Chukku – Shunti – Ginger – Zingiber officinale – 7.69 % – Breaks down stool particles into small pieces by its piercing qualities, relieves constipation.
Milagu – Maricha – Black pepper – Piper nigrum – 7.69 % – It has scraping effect over the intestines, inducing cleansing effect.
Vaividangam – Vidanga – Embelia ribes – 7.69 % – It is widely used against intestinal worm infestation. It has Antihelmintic activity.

Indication

Indications of Nilaavarai Chooranam:

  • Malachikkal/malakattu [constipation]
  • Kudarpuzhukkalum kirimigalum [helminthiasis].

Dose

Dosage & Adjuvants of Nilaavarai Chooranam:

  • 1 – 2 g with hot water after food twice daily.
  • For constipation it is preferable at bed time.
    Or as directed by the physician.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

  • There are no recorded side effects with this medicine.
  • Over dose may induce loose motion.
  • Should be taken under medical supervision.
