Eladhi Chooranam Uses, Dose, Ingredients, Side effects

Eladhi Chooranam is a classical Siddha medicine in powder form manufactured by SKM Siddha & Ayurveda Company India Ltd., Erode- Tamil Nadu. It is used in the treatment of urinary tract infections.

Ingredients

Ingredients of Eladhi Chooranam:
Elam – Ela – Cardamom – Elettaria cardamomum – 25 % – Being an excellent anti oxidant, it is used in treating blood pressure, asthma, indigestion, dysuria etc. 
Chukku – Shunti – Ginger – Zingiber officinale – 12.5 %
Kookai neer – Tavaksheeri – Bamboo – Maranta arundinacea – 6.4 % – It is a plant mentioned in Ayurveda for the treatment of cough, skin diseases, wounds, digestive disorders, nausea, gynecological disorders and fever. 
Lavangapathiri – Patra – Cinnamomum tamala – 3.2 %
Sirunagapoo – Twak – Cinnamon – Cinnamomum verum – 1.6 % – Cinnamon improves digestion strength, is useful in diabetes, high cholesterol etc.
Milagu – Maricha – Black pepper – Piper nigrum – 0.8 %
Kirambu – Lavanga – Clove – Syzygium aromaticum – 0.4 % – It balances Kapha and Pitta doshas.
Karumbu sarkkarai – Sita – Saccharum officinarum – 50 %

Indication

Indication of Eladhi Chooranam:

  • Excessive pitham [biliousness]
  • Mooththira choodu [scalding of urine]
  • Mooththira erichchal [burning micturition]
  • Adhiushnam [excessive heat]
  • Kaikal erivu [burning sensation of hand & foot]
  • Yeppam [belching]
  • Thole arippu/ Saaruma arippu [general itching of the skin]
  • Saarumaththilthonrum karuppu niram [blackening of skin]
  • Elumburukki [emaciation].

Dose

Dosage & Adjuvants of Eladhi Chooranam:

2 – 4 g with milk twice daily after food.
Or as directed by the physician.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.
