Sudarshana Arishta Uses, Dose, Ingredients and Side effects

Sudarshana arishta is an Ayurvedic medicine manufactured by Nagarjuna Ayurvedic Group. It is used in the treatment of fever, liver and spleen disorders.

Ingredients of Sudarshana arishtam:
Each 25 ml is prepared out of:
Kaaleeyakam – Chandana – Sandal wood – Santalum album – 0.112 g
Rajani – Turmeric – Curcuma longa – 0.112 g – It removes blocks in the liver and restores the haematopoietic functions.
Devadaru – Cedrus deodara – 0.112 g
Vacha – Sweet flag – Acorus calamus – 0.112 g
Ghana – Mustha – Cyperus rotundus – 0.112 g
Abhaya – Chebulic myrobalan – Terminalia chebula – 0.112 g – Useful in anemia, initial stages of liver diseases.
Dhanwayaasham – Fagonia cretica – 0.112 g
Shrungi – Pistacia integerrima – 0.112 g
Kshudra (Kantakari) – Solanum xanthocarpum – 0.112 g
Mahaushadha (Shunti) – Ginger – Zingiber officinalis – 0.112 g
Trayanthi (Trayamana) – Gentiana kurroo – 0.112 g
Parpata – Fumaria indica – 0.112 g
Nimbi – Neem – Azadirachta indica – 0.112 g – It has hepato-protective, immuno-modulatory, anti-viral, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activities.
Granthika (pippali moola) – Piper longum (root) – 0.112 g
Balaka (Hrivera) – Pavonia odorata – 0.112 g – It is used in the treatment of fever, burning sensation, herpes, excessive thirst, giddiness, vitiligo, vomiting, diarrhea etc.
Shati – Hedychium spicatum – 0.112 g
Paushkara (Pushkara) – Inula racemosa – 0.112 g – It relieves fat and cholesterol. It has anti viral and anti bacterial effects.
Magadhi (Pippali) – Long pepper – Piper longum – 0.112 g
Murva – Marsdenia tenacissima – 0.112 g
Kutaja – Holarrhena antidysenterica – 0.112 g
Madhuyashti – Licorice – Glycyrrhiza glabra – 0.112 g
Shigru – Drumstick – Moringa oilefera – 0.112 g – Useful in abdominal bloating and tumors and spleen related disorders.
Indrayava – Holarrhena antidysenterica – 0.112 g
Vari (Shatavari) – Asparagus racemosus – 0.112 g
Darvu (Daruharidra) – Berberis aristata – 0.112 g
Kuchandana (Raktachandana) – Pterocarpus santalinus – 0.112 g
Padmaka – Prunus puddum – 0.112 g
Sarala – Pinus roxburghi – 0.112 g
Ushira – Vetivera zizanoides – 0.112 g

Athivisha – Aconitum heterophyllum – 0.112 g – It is widely used in treating Vishama Jwara (chronic, recurrent fever).
Bilva – Bael – Aegle marmelos – 0.112 g
Maricha – Black pepper – Piper nigrum – 0.112 g
Gandhapatra (Prasarini) – Paederia foetida – 0.112 g
Dhatri (Amalaki) – Gooseberry – Emblica officinalis – 0.112 g
Guduchi – Giloy – Tinospora cordifolia – 0.112 g – It has immuno-modulatory and anti-pyretic activities.
Katuka – Picrorhiza kurroa – 0.112 g – It acts as a potent liver stimulant. It is used in the treatment of vitiligo, jaundice, hepatitis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Chitraka – Plumbago zeylanicum – 0.112 g
Patola – Pointed gourd – Luffa acutangula – 0.112 g
Kalasi (Prasniparni) – Uraria picta – 0.112 g
Kaitatha (Kiratatikta) – Swertia chirata – 0.112 g – It is widely used in the treatment of liver disorders.
Guda – Jaggery – 4.883 g
Madhu – Honey – 0.488 g
Dhaathaki pushpam – Woodfordia fruiticosa – 0.488 g

Indications

Indications:
Kaphaja Jwara – fever due to vitiated kapha.
Kaphaja Shira shula – sinusitis, headache due to kapha dosha.
Jwara – fever.
Vishama Jwara – intermittent fever.
Jeerna Jwara – chronic fever.
Yakruth Pleeha vikaram – disorders of liver and spleen.
Gulma – chronic flatulence.

Dose, duration of use

Dose:
25 ml thrice daily, after food.
Or as directed by the physician.

How long to use?
This product can be used for a period of 2 – 3 months of time, based on your doctor’s advice.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Side effects, precautions

Side effects:
There are no known side effects with this medicine.
However, it is best to use this medicine under medical supervision.
Store in a cool dry place, away from sunlight.
Keep out of reach and sight of children.                                               
Seek your doctor’s advice for its usage during pregnancy, lactation period and in children.
