Livomyn Syrup: Uses, Ingredients, Dose, Side Effects

Livomyn Syrup is a proprietary Ayurvedic medicine manufactured by Charak Pharma Pvt. Ltd. It protects, regulates and rejuvenates liver.

Livomyn Syrup provides support for detoxification and integrity of liver cells. It contains hepato-protective herbs which are time tested and well-documented to maintain liver functions and digestion.

Indication

Viral hepatitis
Drug induced hepato-toxicity
Alcohol induced hepato-toxicity
Cholestatic jaundice

Dosage

Adults – 15 ml twice a day.
Children – 5 ml twice a day. Or as directed by the physician.

How long to use?
This product can be used for a period of 2 – 3 months of time, based on your doctor’s advice. 

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Each tablet contains –
Katuki – Picrorhiza kurroa – 50 mg – It is used in the treatment of Vitiligo, jaundice, hepatitis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Kiratatikta – Swertia chirata – 10 mg – It is widely used in the treatment of liver disorders.
Mahadi paan  – 10 mg
Nishothara – Operculina turpethum – 10 mg
Palashapushpa – Butea monosperma – 10 mg
Vidanga – False black pepper – Embelia ribes – 10 mg – Experimental evaluation in efficacy against dyslipidemia was done.
Triphala – 10 mg
Amla – Gooseberry – Embelica officinalis
Haritaki – Chebulic myrobalan – Terminalia chebula – Useful in jaundice, splenomegaly.
Vibitaki – Baheda – Terminalia bellerica – Eases motion, has laxative action. Nimba – Neem – Azadirachta indica – 10 mg
Chitraka moola – Lead wort root – Plumbago zeylanica – 10 mg – It improves digestion power.
Bhumyamalaki – Phyllanthus niruri – 18 mg – It is an important liver protecting Ayurvedic herb. 
Kumari – Aloe vera – Aloe barbadensis – 18 mg – useful in hepatitis, hepatomegaly.
Navayasa lauha  – Ayurvedic medicine – 18 mg
Sonageru  – Gairika – Red Ochre – 18 mg – It has cooling and antibilious action.
Latakaranja – Fevernut – Caesalpinia crista – 5 mg – used in treatment of liver and spleen disorders.
Shuddha guggulu – Commiphora mukul – 3 mg – lowers cholesterol.
Kajjali – Ayurvedic preparation – 3 mg
Shuddha shilajitu – Asphaltum – 3 mg
Abhraka bhasma – Mica calx – 1 mg – Animal experimental study was done to prove the hepato-protective activity.
Lauha bhasma – Iron calx – 1 mg – It lowers bilirubin.
Tamra bhasma – Copper calx – 1 mg – It has scraping quality. Hence used in treating high cholesterol. 
Mass extracts of – Kalamegha – Andrographis paniculata – 120 mg – used for the treatment of diseases of the liver, skin diseases, lack of appetite, fever and purification of the blood. 
Bringaraja – False daisy – Eclipta alba – 90 mg
Guduchi – Giloy – Tinospora cordifolia – 60 mg – Useful in treatment of jaundice and related diseases of liver.
Kakamachi – Solanum nigrum – 60 mg
Katuki – Picrorhiza kurroa – 60 mg – It acts as a potent liver stimulant. Nimba – Neem – Azadirachta indica – 60 mg
Punarnava – Spreading hogweed – Boerhavia diffusa – 60 mg
Rohitaka – Tacomella undulata – 60 mg – Used for the treatment of diabetes, jaundice, piles, intestinal worms, leucorrhea and indigestion.
Sharapunkha – Tephrosia purpurea – 60 mg

Side effects, Do’s, Don’ts of Livomyn Syrup

Side effects

There are no known side effects with this medicine. However, it is best to use this medicine under medical supervision. Store in a cool dry place, away from sunlight. Keep out of reach and sight of children.     Seek your doctor’s advice for its usage during pregnancy. This product can be safely used during lactation period and in children for a limited period of few weeks time.
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are diabetic. In diabetic patients, only if the blood sugar is under good control, then this medicine can be given. 

Do’s

Simple and easily digestible food items – leafy vegetables, fresh fruits and fresh juices. Prefer luke-warm water. Small but frequent quantity of food is advised for patients suffering from liver disorder or diseases to maintain normal liver functions. Bed rest especially in jaundice.

Don’ts

Consumption of alcohol and hepato-toxic drugs like steroids, NSAIDs. Excessive intake of tea and coffee. Smoking, chewing of tobacco. Oily and spicy food intake. Excessive physical and psychological stress.
