Himcospaz Soft Capsule: Uses, Ingredients, Dose, Side Effects

Himcospaz Soft Capsule is a proprietary Ayurvedic medicine manufactured by The Himalaya Drug Company. It is the breakthrough anti-spasmodic.

Himcospaz is a specially designed product for spasms of varied aetiology. It is the herbal preparation.

Indication

Uterine colic as a result of dysmenorrhea and pelvic inflammatory disease.
Abdominal colic including intestinal colic.
Biliary colic as a result of cholecystitis & gall stones.
Spasms associated with chronic infective and secretory diarrhea, bacillary and amoebic dysentery, worm infestation, irritable bowel syndrome and mucous colitis.
Acute pain associated with lower urinary tract infections.
Acute pain associated with pancreatitis.
Ureteric spasms.

Mode of action

Antispasmodic- Himcospaz inhibits the contractions induced by several spasmogens like acetylecholine and histamine.
While relieving non-specific abdominal colic, Himcospaz improves digestion and controls diarrhea.
As an anti-inflammatory and analgesic agent, the drug is effective in alleviating the pain associated with menstrual cramps.
Prostaglandin inhibitors found in Himcospaz are effective in the treatment of dysmenorrhea and other smooth muscle colic.

Dosage

2 soft gelatin capsules to be taken as soon as the acute spasmodic pain is felt.
1 gelatin capsule may be repeated after 1 hour, if the spasmodic pain is not relieved completely,
or as directed by the physician.
Subsequently, 1 soft gelatin capsule may be taken at intervals of 8 hours for the next 3 – 5 days.
For the management of irritable bowel syndrome, 2 soft gelatin capsules to be taken twice a day for 4 – 6 weeks.
In spasmodic dysmenorrhea & menstrual cramps, 2 soft gelatin capsules to be taken twice a day till the menstrual cycle completes.
In severe types of colic, including biliary and renal colic, it may be combined with other conventional anti-spasmodics,
or as directed by the physician.

How long to use?
This product can be used for a period of 2 – 3 months of time, based on your doctor’s advice. 

With Other Medicines

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Ingredients

Each soft gelatin capsule contains extracts of –
Ajamoda – Celery – Apium graveolens – 96 mg
Shati – Curcuma zedoaria – Spiked ginger lily – 25.5 mg – It has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
Shunti – Ginger – Zingiber officinale – 24 mg – It has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties.
Processed in oils of –
Shatapushpa – Dill seed – Foeniculum vulgare – Relieves abdominal colic pain.
Krishna Jeeraka – Black Cumin – Carum carvi
Yavani – Carom seed – Carum copticum – used in abdominal colic pain.

Side effects of Himcospaz Soft Capsule

There are no known side effects with this medicine.
However, it is best to use this medicine under medical supervision.
Store in a cool dry place, away from sunlight.
Keep out of reach and sight of children.                                             
Seek your doctor’s advice for its usage during pregnancy, lactation period and in children.
