Kalasakadi Kashayam: Uses, Dose, Ingredients, Side Effects

Kalasakadi kashayam is a herbal decoction, used in the treatment of constipation, fever and low digestion. Kalasaka means Curry leaves. It is the main ingredient of this medicine. 

Uses

Uses of Kalasakadi Kashayam:
Excellent in indigestion combined with constipation.
Good in fever and promotes appetite.
Alleviates even cholera if used in the early stages.
It is also good in distaste, piles, colitis, irritable bowel syndrome and flatulence.

Actions

Roga karma-
grahani, visuchika, udara roga, shulahara and krimihara.
Dosha karma-
Balances Kapha and Vata Dosha – Kapha Vatahara
Eases normal movement of Vata DOsha – vatanulomaka
Agni karma-
Improves digestion strength – Deepana
Carminative – Pachana

Ingredients

Ingredients of Kalasakadi Kashayam:
Kalasaka (Murraya koenigii (Linn))- 1 part.
Haritaki (Terminalia chebula)- 1 part.
Shunti (Zingiber officinale)- 1 part.

Dose, adjuvant

Dosage of Kalasakadi kashayam:
5-15 ml diluted with 15-45 ml of water twice daily, before food. Or as directed by the physician.
For children below 5 years dose is 3-5 ml, once or twice a day, mixed with 10-15 ml of water, once or twice a day, before food or as directed by doctor.
For children between 5 – 12 years of age, dose is 5 – 10 ml, mixed with 15 – 20 ml of water, once or twice a day, before food or as directed by doctor.

Adjuvant- rock salt.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Side effects, shelf life

Side effects-
There are no known side effects with this medicine.
Over dosage may cause loose stools or diarrhea.
