Panchamrit Parpati Benefits, Dosage, Ingredients, Side Effects

Panchamrit Parpati  is an Ayurvedic medicine, with herbal and mineral ingredients, in powder form. It is used in Ayurvedic treatment of Haemorrhoids, malabsorption syndrome, anorexia etc.  This medicine should only be taken strictly under medical supervision.

Benefits

 It is used in the treatment of Malabsorption syndrome, Haemorrhoids, Vomiting, Diarrhoea, Fever, Anorexia, Pthisis, weakness, muscle wasting, emaciation, Bleeding disorders such as menorrhagia, nasal bleeding, dyspepsia, eye disorders, senility and oligospermia.

Effect on Tridosha – Balances Vata, Pitta and Kapha

Dosage


125 mg – 250 mg once or twice a day before or after food or as directed by Ayurvedic doctor.
It is traditionally administered along with honey, ghee, fried cumin seed powder,  warm water.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Side Effects

  • This medicine should only be taken under strict medical supervision.
  • Self medication with this medicine may prove to be dangerous.
  • It is to be avoided in children and pregnant and lactating mothers.
  • Over-dosage may cause many poisonous side effects.
  • Take this medicine in precise dose and for limited period of time, as advised by doctor.
  • Keep out of reach and sight of children. Store in a dry cool place.

Ingredients


Shuddha Gandhaka – 96 g
Shuddha Parada – 48 g
Loha Bhasma – 24 g
Abhraka Bhasma – 12 g
Tamra Bhasma – 6 g

First Purified Sulphur and Mercury are triturated to form Kajjali (black mixture, devoid of shining).
Then the rest of ingredients are added, made into homogeneous mass, heated till the mixture liquefies, poured on a plain platform and pressed, with the help of plate. The obtained product is called as Parpati.

    Can you please tell if it is safe to take panchamitra parpati while staying on the normal diet. Or I’ve to stop eating food and go on takra diet for a particular period of time(also known as parpati kalpa) to cure my disease.

    I suffer from grahani disease for past 10 years.

  3. From what I’ve read in books it’s said panchamrit parpati should only be taken by kalpa method. A person should go on a fast with only buttermilk as the primary diet for 50 to 60 days.

    Can we also take this medicine along with normal food as written in your article.

  5. The panchamit parpati is small solidlike stones, since ive been taking it,it goes undigested back to stools. Do we need to chew it to make it absorbable?

        I have been prescribed panchamrit parpati 125mg + 125mg kravyad ras + 250mg buttermilk.
        Initially it was undigestable – all milk products. Now they are digested but leads to a lot of sleep, disorientation and weakness. Will consult my doctor soon .
