Kofol Syrup – Ingredients, Benefits, Dose, Side effects

Kofol Syrup is a proprietary Ayurvedic medicine manufactured by Charak Pharma Pvt. Ltd. It provides relief from cough of varied causes.

Ingredients

Ingredients of Kofol Syrup:
Turmeric – Haridra – Curcuma longa – It has anti-inflammatory, expectorant and anti-bacterial properties.
Ginger – Shunti – Zingiber officinale – It has anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and immuno-modulatory properties.
Licorice – Yashti – Glycyrrhiza glabra – It has expectorant, immuno-modulatory, anti-allergic and anti-pyretic properties.
Malabar nut – Vasa – Adhatoda vasica – It is used in treating asthma, bronchitis and excess mucous condition.
Basil – Tulasi – Ocimum sanctum – It has immuno-modulator, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties.
Belliric myrobalan – Vibitaki – Terminalia bellirica – Anti-tussive, suppresses the cough reflex.

Indications

Indications of Kofol Syrup:
Cough of allergic (pollutants / pollens / dust / occupational etc.) or infective origin
Cough associated with gastro-esophageal reflux
Cough associated with bronchial asthma
Productive and dry cough
Mucosal irritation (sore throat)

Dose

Dosage of Kofol Syrup:
1 to 2 tea spoon twice or thrice a day.
Or as directed by the physician.

How long to use?
This product can be used for a period of 2 – 3 months of time, based on your doctor’s advice.

Dos and Don’ts
Dos
Gargle with salt water.
Steam inhalation of warm water with camphor and mint recommended.
Avoid speaking too much to reduce strain on the throat. If required, talking in a low and soft pitch is advised.
Oil massage followed by hot fomentation over chest and back, especially in the case of chest congestion.
Perform breathing exercise to increase lung capacity.

Don’ts
Avoid exposure to cold wind and rain.
Avoid cold water, refrigerated food items and ice creams.
Avoid smoking, tobacco chewing and exposure to chemicals, industrial fumes, pollen and dust.
Avoid oily and spicy food.

Side effects

Side effects of Kofol Syrup
There are no known side effects with this medicine.
However, it is best to use this medicine under medical supervision.
Store in a cool dry place, away from sunlight.
Keep out of reach and sight of children.
Seek your doctor’s advice for its usage during pregnancy, lactation period and in children.

With Homeopathy and western medicine

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

Can this medicine be continued while taking supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

With western medicines

Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic / modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take Allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then take the Ayurvedic medicine.
