Panchakavya Ghritham: Uses, Dose, Ingredients, Side effects

Panchakavya Ghritham is a classical Siddha medicated ghee, manufactured by SKM Siddha & Ayurveda Company India Ltd., Erode – Tamil Nadu. It is used in the treatment of peptic ulcer & jaundice.

Ingredients of Panchakavya Ghritham:
Pasuvin paal – Go dugdha – Bos indicus/ milk – q.s.
Pasu nei – Go ghritha – Bos indicus/ ghee – 93 %
Pasuvin thayir – Dadhi – Bos indicus/ curd – q.s.
Koneer [pasu moothiram] – Go mutra – Bos indicus/ cow’s urine – q.s.
Sanam [pasu sanam] – Go maya – Bos indicus/ cow’s shit – q.s.
Athimadhuram – Yastimadhu – Licorice – Glycyrrhiza glabra – 0.20 % – It has anti-depressant compounds and helps in warding off depression.
Kostam – Kusta – Saussurea lappa – 0.20 %
Vaivilangam – Vidanga – False black pepper – Embelia ribes – 0.20 % – It is widely used against intestinal worm infestation.
Vizhalarishi – Jyothishmathi – Celastrus paniculatus – 0.20 % – It improves memory and intelligence.
Vetpalai arishi – Swetakutaja – Wrightia tinctoria – 0.20 %
Vellulli [poondu] – Lashuna – Garlic – Allium sativum – 0.20 % – It is hot, cleansing, cardiac tonic, digestive, good for eyes, improves hair strength and quality, useful in cough, asthma etc.
Sathakuppai – Satahva – Dill seed – Anethum sowa – 0.20 % – It is mainly used in digestive disorders.
Santhanam – Chandana – Sandal wood – Santalum album – 0.20 % – It is a coolant, very useful in gastritis, burning sensation in hands and feet.
Karumpoolanpattai – Kachora – Kaempferia galanga – 0.20 %
Ponmusuttai – Patha – Cissampelos pareira – 0.20 % – It is an Ayurveda herb, used mainly in the treatment of fever, intestinal worms, non healing wounds etc.
Saranaiver – Punarnava – Boerhavia diffusa – 0.20 % – It is one of the very important anti inflammatory medicinal herbs. Useful in anemia, early stage of liver disorders.
Nilapanai kizhangu – Taalamooli – Curculigo orchioides – 0.20 %
Korosansi omam – Parasika yavani – Hyoscyamus niger – 0.20 %
Athividayam – Ativisha – Aconitum heterophyllum – 0.20 % – Of all the herbs having digestive, carminative, absorbent and Tridosha balancing properties, Ativisha is the best.
Elavangapathiri – Twak – Cinnamon – Cinnamomum zeylanicum – 0.20 %
Vilvaver sampal – Bilva – Bael – Aegle marmelos – 0.20 %
Nellivettral – Amalaki – Gooseberry – Emblica officinalis – 0.20 %

Nannariver – Sariva – Sarsaparilla – Hemidesmus indicus – 0.20 % – It is widely used in the treatment of oligospermia, gastritis, anorexia, menorrhagia etc.
Nellimaraver – Amalaki – Gooseberry – Emblica officinalis – 0.20 %
Keezhanelliver – Bhumyamalaki – Phyllanthus niruri – 0.20 % – It is used for the treatment of fever, inflammation of spleen and liver, fractures, fever, jaundice and skin diseases. 
Thuththiver – Athibala – Abutilon indicum – 0.20 % – It is used in the treatment of leprosy, liver disorders, ulcers, headache etc.
Sathikkai – Jatiphala – Nutmeg – Myristica fragrans – 0.20 % – It is an aphrodisiac, digestive tonic, useful in cough, cold, asthma and more.
Chukku – Shunti – Ginger – Zingiber officinale – 0.20 %
Milagu – Maricha – Black pepper – Piper nigrum – 0.20 %
Thippili – Pippali – Long pepper – Piper longum – 0.20 % – It has all qualities of a typical spice like useful in indigestion, asthma, cough etc.
Kadukkai thol – Haritaki – Chebulic myrobalan – Terminalia chebula – 0.20 %
Thandrikkai thol – Vibhitaki – Belleric myrobalan – Terminalia bellerica – 0.20 %

  • Kunmam [peptic ulcer]
  • Peenisam [sinusitis]
  • Pithapandu [a type of anemia]
  • Kamalai [jaundice]
  • Peruvairu [ascites]
  • Kiriyai [psychiatric disorders].

Dose

Dosage & Adjuvants of Panchakavya Ghritham:
5 ml after food twice daily with hot water.
Or as directed by the physician.
