Vathakodari Thailam: Uses, Dose, Ingredients, Side effects

Vathakodari Thailam is a classical Siddha medicine in oil form manufactured by SKM Siddha & Ayurveda Company India ltd., Erode- Tamil Nadu. It is used in the treatment of rheumatic disorders.

Ingredients of Vathakodari Thailam:
Nochi elai – Nirgundi – Vitex negundo – 18.24 % – It is a very good muscle relaxant and pain relieving herb.
Errukku elai – Arka – Calotropis gigantea – 18.24
Yumathai elai – Dhattura – Datura stramonium – 18.24 % – It helps to relieve pain and inflammation.
Thirugu kalli – Snuhi – Euphorbia antiquorum – 18.24 % – It has anti-inflammatory activity.
Veppampattai – Nimba – Neem – Azadirachta indica – 18.24 %
Chukku – Shunti – Ginger – Zingiber officinale – 0.35 % – It has analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities.
Milagu – Maricha – Black pepper – Piper nigrum – 0.35 %
Thippili – Pippali – Long pepper – Piper longum – 0.35 %
Sathikkai – Jatiphala – Nutmeg – Myristica fragrans – 0.31 %
Sathipathiri – Jatipatra – Myristica fragrans – 0.35 %

Indication of Vathakodari Thailam:

  • Vali keelvayu
  • Azhal keelvayu
  • Valiazhal keelvayu
  • All kinds of vatha disorders [rheumatic disorders]
    Post viral fever, when the patient complains of body, muscle and joint pains
    Bursitis,  
  • Bursitis trochanterica,
  • Shoulder dislocation pain

Direction for use

Direction for use of Vathakodari Thailam:
To be applied over the affected parts & rubbed gently followed by fomentation with hot water.
Or as directed by the physician.

Application on feet

Oil application over feet

Precaution if you apply this oil over feet:
If you apply this oil on feet, make sure to wash off thouroughly with water or wipe off with cloth. The oil can make you slippery while walking.
After applying, make sure there are no oil spills on the floor. This can make the floor slippery.

Can this product be applied after steam therapy?
No. Oil is best applied before steam therapy. This is as per basic Ayurvedic principles. 

Side effects and package

Side effects of Vathakodari Thailam:

  • There are no recorded side effects with this medicine.
  • For external application only.

Bottle of 100 ml & 500 ml.

During pregnancy, lactation

If you were using this oil before pregnancy without any allergic reaction, you can continue using this oil even during pregnancy.
If you have not used this product before and wish to use it during pregnancy, better to consult a doctor because it can cause skin allergy in some rare cases.
It is generally considered as safe to use during lactation, however consult your doctor for the right advice.

Can this product be applied after steam therapy?
No. Oil is best applied before steam therapy. This is as per basic Ayurvedic principles.
