Pungampattai Ennai: Uses, Dose, Ingredients, Side effects

Pungampattai Ennai is a classical Siddha medicine in oil form manufactured by SKM Siddha & Ayurveda Company India Ltd., Erode- Tamil Nadu. It is used to treat nervous disorders.

Ingredients

Ingredients of Pungampattai Ennai:
Purified kanthagam – Shuddha Gandhaka – Elemental sulfur – 24.64 % Purified thalagam – Shuddha Haratala – Arsenic trisulfide – 12.68 % – It is useful in skin diseases with itching, cough, cold, bronchitis, asthma, syphilis, sinus, boils etc.
Purified mayil thuththam – Shuddha Thuttha – Copper sulfate – 12.68 % Purified neeradimuthu – Tuvaraka – Hydnocarpus kurzii – 24.64 % – It is an ancient Ayurvedic herb used mainly in the treatment of skin diseases. 
Karboga arishi – Bakuchi – Psoralea corylifolia – 12.68 % – It is an Ayurveda herb, very well known for its efficacy against skin diseases including leucoderma.
Kattu seeragam – Aranya jeeraka – Vernonia anthelmintica – 12.68 % – It has anti-oxidant, anti- bacterial and anti-fungal activities.
Punagampattai paal – Karanja – Pongamia pinnata – q.s. – It helps in quick wound healing and useful in skin diseases, inflammation etc.
Thenkai paal – Narikela – Coconut – Cocos nucifera – q.s.
Thenkay ennai – Narikela taila – Coconut oil – Cocos nucifera – q.s. – Useful in wound healing and skin diseases.

Indication

Indication of Pungampattai Ennai:

  • Anaiththu kuttam [all types of skin disorders]
  • Padai [fungal infection of the skin]
  • Karappan [eczema]
  • Araippu [bubo]
  • Vettai [a type of STD].
  • Useful in mosquito bite scars, sun tan, white heads, sensitive skin.

Application on feet

Oil application over feet

Precaution if you apply this oil over feet:
If you apply this oil on feet, make sure to wash off thouroughly with water or wipe off with cloth. The oil can make you slippery while walking.
After applying, make sure there are no oil spills on the floor. This can make the floor slippery.

Direction for use

Direction for use of Pungampattai Ennai:
5 – 7 drops with palm jaggery or cane sugar in empty stomach in morning for 1 week. Then leave 1 week gap & repeat the dosage for 1 more week again.
Or as directed by the physician.

Side effects and package

Side effects of Pungampattai Ennai:

  • There are no recorded side effects with this medicine.
  • Should be taken under medical supervision.

Bottle of 10 ml & 100 ml.

During pregnancy, lactation

If you were using this oil before pregnancy without any allergic reaction, you can continue using this oil even during pregnancy.
If you have not used this product before and wish to use it during pregnancy, better to consult a doctor because it can cause skin allergy in some rare cases.
It is generally considered as safe to use during lactation, however consult your doctor for the right advice.

Can this product be applied after steam therapy?
No. Oil is best applied before steam therapy. This is as per basic Ayurvedic principles.
