Mayana Thailam: Uses, Dose, Ingredients, Side effects

Mayana Thailam is a classical Siddha medicine in oil form manufactured by SKM Siddha & Ayurveda Company India Ltd., Erode- Tamil Nadu. It is used for treating various neuro-muscular pains.

Ingredients

Ingredients of Mayana Thailam:
Then mezhugu – Madhu – Honey – Apis mellifera – 26.22 %
Sakkikkal – Flint stone – 26.22 %
Sottruppu – Saindhava lavana – Sodium chloride – 26.22 % – Useful in joint disorders with stiffness. It strengthens the bones and connective tissue.
Attrumanal – River sand – 13.11 %
Omam – Yavani – Carom seed – Trachyspermum ammi – 3.28 % – It is used extensively in digestive diseases.
Manjal – Haridra – Turmeric – Curcuma longa – 3.28 % – It has anti-inflammatory, wound healing and immuno-modulatory properties.
Jadamanjil – Jatamamsi – Spikenard – Nardostachys jatamansi – 1.64 %

Indication of Mayana Thailam:

  • Andavayu [scrotal swellings]
  • Paarisa vadham [paralysis]
  • Vali [neuralgic pain]
  • Keelvayu [arthritis]
  • Amavadham/ elumbudasai narambugalil erpadum vayu [rheumatism]
  • Kuzhandhaigalin isivu [tetanus/convulsions of children]
  • Veekkam [swellings]
  • Raththam vazhiyam vettukayam [bleeding wounds/cuts]
  • Vidhaiveekkam [orchitis]
  • Aankurithalarchchi [atony of penis]
  • Penkurithalarchchi [atony of vagina]
  • Narambu thalarchchi [nervous debility]
  • Kaikaal sorvu [asthenia of hand & foot]
  • Also in narithalaivadham, sannivadham, sannipatham [typhoid & intermittent fevers].
  • Post viral fever, when the patient complains of body, muscle and joint pains
    Bursitis,  
  • Bursitis trochanterica,
  • Shoulder dislocation pain

Application on feet

Oil application over feet

Precaution if you apply this oil over feet:
If you apply this oil on feet, make sure to wash off thouroughly with water or wipe off with cloth. The oil can make you slippery while walking.
After applying, make sure there are no oil spills on the floor. This can make the floor slippery.

Direction for use

Direction for use of Mayana Thailam:
To be applied externally on the affected area in certain types of chronic ailments.
Or as directed by the physician.

Instruction

General instruction:
Do not give hot water fomentation.

Side effects and package

Side effects of Mayana Thailam:

  • There are no recorded side effects with this medicine.
  • For external application only.

Presentation:

Bottle of 30 ml.

During pregnancy, lactation

If you were using this oil before pregnancy without any allergic reaction, you can continue using this oil even during pregnancy.
If you have not used this product before and wish to use it during pregnancy, better to consult a doctor because it can cause skin allergy in some rare cases.
It is generally considered as safe to use during lactation, however consult your doctor for the right advice.

Can this product be applied after steam therapy?
No. Oil is best applied before steam therapy. This is as per basic Ayurvedic principles.
