Tiktakam Kashayam – Benefits, Dosage, Side Effects, Ingredients

Tiktakam Kashayam is an Ayurvedic medicine used to treatment of skin diseases and blood detoxification. It is herbal decoction. It is also available in Kashayam tablet form. 

Uses

Tiktakam kashayam benefits:

  • It is used in skin diseases like herpes, psoriasis, infective skin conditions, dermatitis, abscess, sinuses.
  • It is also used to treat fistula tracts, non healing wounds.
  • It is used in infection of digestive system.
  • It is also used to treat leucorrhoea.
  • burning sensation in stomach, thirst, giddiness, anemia and insanity.

Doctors also prescribe this for the treatment of
Hemorrhoids, especially when there is infection.

Effect on Tridosha – Balances Pitta

Side effects


There are no known side effects of this medicine.
People with diabetes should take this medicine under medical supervision.

Dose and Adjuvant

Tiktakam kashaya dosage: 

This medicine is formulated based on the herbs of a ghee preparation called as Tiktakam ghritam.

  • 5 – 10 ml, before food, or on empty stomach, once or twice a day or as directed by Ayurvedic doctor.
  • If the kashayam is concentrated, then it needs to be mixed with equal quantity of water and should be taken.
  • Kashayam tablet dosage is – 2 tablets 2 times a day before food or as directed by doctor.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Parpata – Fumaria indica
Trayamana – Gentiana kurroo
Musta – Cyperus rotundus
Bhunimba – Andrographis paniculata
Kalinga – Holarrhena antidysenterica
Kana – Long pepper – Piper longum
Chandana – Sandalwood – Santalum album

    Kindly clarify the pathya rules. I find it very confusing. My doctor prescribed Tiktakam kashayam and just told me to follow vegetarian diet and avoid fried items as well as junk food. Nothing like mentioned above. How strict is the pathya rules? Is there any side effect if one couldn’t follow the pathya as mentioned? Also please clarity this – “Bathe only every 3rd or 4th day, that too not in cold water.” Thanks.

    My daughter experiencing hair loss on her forehead and growth of sideburns. My doctor recommended her Tiktakam kwatham and Himalaya Shatavari tablets to take everyday morning empty stomach for a year to balance the harmons. Is there is any side effects on long run. Please advise.

    I have been prescribed Tiktakam Kashyam for dry scalp/ Mild Psoriasis before.

    But is it safe to have tiktakam kashayam during pregnancy? Now being 23 weeks?

Doctor I have fungus in my nails for past 1and a half year I have tried many english medicine but it did not have any kind of improvement so I started to use kottakal tablets and ointment for past 2 months can it be treated with titakam kwatham and manjishthadi kawatham.Can this disease be treated fully or we can control this?

    My doctor prescibed me for Hairloss problem – Tiktakam Kwatham tablet-3 nos and Annabedisindooram Capsule-2 nos and Kundalakanti Tailam and Chembaruthyadi Kera Tailam. Are those medicines helpful and will help in reverse of hairloss, hairthinning ?
    Also can i take above tablet with water or milk?

    If it lowers sugar in your body does it tend to lose weight in your body?
    As I have lost weight after having it for one month. Also I have been prescribed same in ghee format is it same ingredient?
